This Book has implemented desk research as the research strategy. Given this, the formal regulation of police recruitment in the INP and the police recruitment results in the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (JMP) in 2019 were utilised as the main data sources. The research concludes that meritocratic values mostly have been incorporated in the stated regulation. However, when the merit principle in the stated regulation was implemented by the JMP, the recruitment results in 2019 show that there was an increase in gender disparities in the proportion of accepted applicants, meaning a lower proportion of women recruits were accepted, which unconsciously introduced gender inequality.
